PSYCHOLOGICAL CHALLENGES OF ADULTS WITH SEVER MENTAL ILLNESS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

As part of her doctoral research in Epidemiology, Dr. Diallo-Montford conducted a cross-sectional study examining how COVID-19 impacted adults with severe mental illness (SMI) at an urban health center in Georgia. Her findings revealed that pandemic-related factors, including COVID-19 infection, shelter-in-place orders, and even high levels of social support, were significantly associated with increased psychological distress and depression severity among this vulnerable population.
